Tone is the pitch of sound emitted by
the detector. Adjusting Tone can help
identify one target from another.
THRESHOLD TONE
TH. TONE allows you to adjust the tone
of the Threshold ‘hum’ to best suit your
own hearing.
A high Threshold tone is often preferred
by people with good hearing, where
a low Threshold tone is preferred by
people with hearing difficulties.

VARIABILITY
VARIABILITY controls how much the tone
will change depending on the targets
characteristics. It can help to separate
targets of different characteristics.
A high variability represents a
significant variation of tone from target
to target.
A low variability represents a minimum
variation of tone from target to target.
LIMITS
This sets the upper limit of all tones
emitted by the Explorer SE.
A low limit will produce only low tone
target signals.
A high limit will provide very high
tone signals as well as low tone
signals.
Minelab recommends setting the
upper limit to the highest tone you
are comfortable with.
Try testing LIMITS with a highly
conductive object such as a large
silver coin.

To adjust TONE settings:
Ensure that CONDUCT is selected from
the SOUNDS screen (pg. 64) and that
the Threshold Volume and the Volume
MAX LIMIT are appropriate for your
environment (i.e. for headphones or
speaker use, ambient noise etc.)
1 Adjust the THRESHOLD TONE to what
you are comfortable with. This should be
the tone you can hear most clearly.
2 Using two targets you are likely to
often seek (which display a difference
of 1 or 2 on the Digital COND reading)
adjust VARIABILITY so you can hear the
difference between one and the other.
3 Select a target with high conductivity
(giving a high number on the Digital
display) and wave it past the coil. Adjust
LIMITS for a tone as high as possible but
still within the range where you can hear
well.
